Like you can see from the recipes that I have linked below the problem is not easy to solve. There are different points of view.
The neapolitan school says that the Gateau without the ham what kind of gateau is?
On the other hand (or you can also say "above the hand" accopp a man) the Carolina school prefers a gateau without ham.
My finally suggestion:
Carolina, Why don't you take at school the two different type of gateau and let us to decide which is the best?

It's simply delicious ("Una giornata al mare" written by Giorgio Conte, "L'appuntamento" by Ornella Vanoni..)About the gateau I have my idea: a potatoes gateau must be made with the jam. In the other hands we are speaking about a cheese potatos cake, aren't we?
So my vote goes to YES...I am for the jam.
